If you encourage them to drop their children off then you have essentially halved the number of people in the venue or in the garden. This makes it much more covid safe. Birthday parties can be fun. Smiling children running around fun, the atmosphere, the singing and dancing. It’s all fun and games. If you’re attending a party, that’s what you’ll see. However, if you’re the one that planned the party, you’ll be worrying about if something will go wrong or whether you made the right decisions. It’s important to not think like this, you’re supposed to have fun at parties! If this sounds like how you think, after people start showing up at the party there’s nothing more you can do and if something is going to go wrong, there’s nothing that you can do. With that in mind, just sit back and enjoy the party with everyone else. However, how can we organize a children’s party without the risk of things going wrong?

Food

Most parties are a few hours long (or in some cases last the whole afternoon), and with most children’s parties it’s expected that there will be 30 or so minutes taken out of the party for children to sit down and fill their bellies. The problem with this is that a lot of children are fussy eaters. There are two options to choose from when planning what the children will eat, either a small buffet or a pre-set plate filled with food.

There are benefits to both. On one hand, if you decide on a small buffet you will have to come up with a few different food options and you will have to estimate how many of each thing you will have to make. However, children are given the freedom to pick what they want to eat and therefore will only choose what they like. On the other hand, preparing pre-set plates of food for the children allows for you to only prepare what you need to prepare and not estimate, however you run the risk of children not eating some of the food.

Entertainment

It’s important that you hire entertainment for a party. Whether it be an entertainer to perform or walk around and amuse the children, or whether it’s a bouncy castle. Regardless of the entertainment that you decide to hire for the party, one thing is for sure. Music is necessary. A party without music leaves nothing but awkward silence all around. Mascot parties for children

As a parent, once you’ve planned a few birthday parties you begin to notice that your ideas are becoming stale and that the next time you host one, you need to introduce something fresh and amazing that everyone will get a kick out of.

One thing about birthday parties that I’ve noticed in the past few years is that there are a few different groups of parents who show up. One group of parents doesn’t stay for the party. Another group stay at the party to chat with the other parents. And last but definitely not least, there are the parents who stay, get involved, and have as much fun as they can with the children. If you can pull off a party where the parents are smiling and having a good time too, then you’ve managed to pull it off and you can stop worrying.

With that in mind, we are left with a group of our favourite actors, and whenever we go to watch a movie we will try to see if any of our favourite actors are in the movie. For some people this doesn’t have a noticeable impact on their decision to watch the movie or not, but for a small group of people, it does.

A similar process happens with children. They watch their favourite television shows, and they develop their own opinions about the characters and actors that they see.

Now, here’s the thing. The chances of us seeing one of our favourite actors in the street (let alone come up and talk to us), is miniscule. On the other hand, seeing a cartoon character approach us in the street would be just as worrying, yet just as miniscule. However, children have their own set of beliefs and one of those beliefs is that the cartoon characters that they see are real. This is completely natural, however we would react with nothing but excitement if we were to see and talk to our favourite actors in the street, and children react the same way about their favourite characters.

To Conclude

We have our favourite actors, and if we ever met than and had the chance to have a conversation with them, we would freak out with excitement. Children are more hyper than adults, and if they ever had the chance to meet one of their favourite characters, they would freak out just as much. Having a mascot party is a fantastic idea, and there is no argument against that however, they do not provide the wholesome entertainment you would get from a professional entertainer as there is limited skill required to put on a mascot outfit and dance around.

Houdini – Famous magician

Over the years, magic has taken a big step forward. Not only have magic tricks developed into something much bigger than we could ever have thought of before, but magicians have developed too. By that I mean that there have been magicians who have risen from the ashes, and pushed the magic industry forward in the right direction. Whether they do that through building up their image and performing, or if they work on their own tricks instead. Regardless of how they’ve developed both themselves and magic, they’ve made a mark in the history of magic. So, who have been some of the most influential magicians in history?

David Copperfield

David Copperfield has completely revolutionised how magic is seen from the public eye. He is the face of modern magic and a lot of people consider him as the best magician in our current day and age. From his ability to make the “Statue of Liberty” disappear, to walking through the “Wall of China”, he pulls off some of the biggest and well thought out tricks that we have ever seen.

Harry Houdini

Harry Houdini had an undoubtedly huge impact on the magic industry and more specifically, the escapist side of things. The illusionist, who was known for his amazing escape artist illusions, performed a variety of escape illusions such as being buried alive, the “Chinese water torture cell” escape, among many other escape acts. As one of the most famous illusionists in the history of magic, he has definitely had a noticeable influence.

Dynamo

Dynamo, one of the more recent magicians in the world, only rose to fame as of 2011. In such a short amount of time, he has completely redefined magic. Some of his tricks consist of levitating, getting mobile phones stuck inside of glass bottles, or “teleporting” through solid panes of glass.

Val Valentino

A lot of magicians have negative emotions towards Val, who is otherwise known as “The Masked Magician”. The reasoning behind this is because of how Val exposes the secrets behind magic. While us, the public, are grateful on some levels for the secrets that are revealed, it leaves us with the question, “Is it really such a great thing when we find out how a magic trick is performed?”. There are two sides to this argument.

On one side, yes it is great to find out how magic tricks are performed. As soon as we find out we spend a few minutes thinking “Oh!” to ourselves and wondering how we didn’t realize that at first, and we get a few minutes of glory to ourselves.

On the other side of things, it can ruin magic for you. The thing about magic is that it’s based off of misdirection. The magician performs their act in a very specific way so that the audience don’t catch on to the sleight of hand movements that they are doing. If you find out about all these little tricks that they do that you don’t catch on to, it might be great to find out how a trick is performed, but you won’t enjoy it anymore. Puppet shows are great for not only entertainment, but for helping educate children on certain topics as well as showing them how to convey their emotions. Not only this, but puppet shows are something that children can watch, and that they can take part in themselves.

Professional puppets can be rather expensive, but when you take a pair of old socks, some buttons and string, and a black pen, you can spend some quality time with your children and finding out who can make the best puppets! Sesame Street

The Muppets

Similar to a few other children shows, The Muppets bring a unique sense of humour to their shows. By this I mean that a lot of their humour is conveyed in a way that children can get a laugh out of it, but only adults will truly understand the joke. Bear in the Big Blue House

This Puppet Show is owned by the same company that runs the other 2 brands, although there are no shared characters, however there are shared producers.

I feel as though this sense of humour that the include in children’s television shows are important as it gives adults and parents a chance to enjoy a television show that both they and their children enjoy, compared to watching something that only one of them will enjoy.

Magic for kids and adults

There is a simple answer to this, and a more complicated answer to it. Let’s start with the simple answer. Children love magic more than adults because they don’t expect to understand complex happenings. What do I mean by that? Children don’t look deep into things that happen, whereas adults tend to look at all of the tiny details that they can spot, which can sometimes confuse them and distract them from what they should be looking at. However, let’s get deeper into this topic and find out the more complex answer.

Our Brains

As we grow older and our brains continue to develop, we think in different ways and see things differently. This applies to a lot of things like the way we see current events, the news, religion, different sides of arguments. We understand things a lot more because we look at them deeper than we did as a child, and that is something that magicians take advantage of when performing their acts so that we don’t catch the subtle things that they do.

Children on the other hand, they don’t look at things as in depth as adults do. They look at things from a simple perspective, which is something that can weaken a magician’s act.

A magician works on misdirection. They are incredibly enthusiastic about their acts, this way they are able to misdirect their audience a lot easier and perform their act successfully.

Music for children’s parties

Music plays an important part in our lives. As we grow up, our taste in music changes. One of the biggest reasons behind this is that our emotions develop over time, and it’s in our nature that show emotions through the music we listen. The most basic example of this is that when we’re sad, the music that we listen to will be more depressing compared to when we are happy, the music will be more upbeat and happier. That is the reasoning behind why we listen to certain types of music, so how does music affect the development of our children?

How is Music Beneficial to Child Development?

Music plays a key part in the development of a child. In general, it has an impact on how both their body and their mind cooperate. On a more technical scale, music improves:

- Intellectual levels of a children
- Their social skills
- Vocal works such as improving their vocabulary and learning how words are pronounced etc.
- Motor skill development
- Their ability to show their emotions physically, through dancing

Music Between Stages

As I said earlier, music affects us all at different ways. As we grow, it affects us in different ways. Here are some of the different ways that music affects us throughout our lives in order for you to get a better understanding.

Babies. If we think of music in babies, the first things that come to mind are parents quietly humming to the baby to go sleep, or toys which produce quiet and soothing melodies to assist babies in sleeping. While some toys or parents sing too, babies don’t understand words as much as they do melodies.

Toddlers. Toddlers are a lot more energetic than babies. Toddlers have just learnt to walk, which means they are able to dance to all of their favourite melodies and songs that they heard in the past. When a toddler first starts dancing to music, this is the first time that they are expressing themselves through music.

Children. Children are slightly different to toddlers and pre-schoolers. While they might not get up and dance as much as they did as a toddler, you’ll find that they’ll be singing along to the radio and enjoying real music a lot more than they did before.

As we all know, teenagers are more rebellious as they begin to step into adult-hood and feel as though the only person in charge of them is themselves. Along with this, they begin to lose care for a lot of things, including how they come across to others, this includes their music. While they change their clothing to suit their personality, they show off their music tastes. Teenagers listen to the music that they like, and they don’t care if someone doesn’t like it.

As you can see, each stage is fairly different, but it clearly shows how music develops through the different stages of their life.

Bouncy Castles Nottingham

In the last decade or so, bouncy castles have started to become a standard for children’s birthday parties. This once so simple idea has developed into something more than the creator could have ever imagined. Before we get to the underlying question, let’s answer some of the simple yet unanswered questions that a lot of people have.

What is a bouncy castle? A bouncy castle is simply a giant inflatable which is shaped generally like a castle, however depending on where it is hired from there tends to be a variety of structures available to choose from. Once the bouncy castle has been inflated and is checked to be secure, children can jump on the air filled structure without the air pressing out, allowing them to “bounce” around.

Why do kids love bouncy castles? Starting from a very young age, our children begin to get very excited about lots of things. They end up running around, jumping on furniture, throwing balls about. I think it is fair to say that a lot of children are generally hyper during the day. With that in mind, imagine groups of hyper children all jumping around on a giant inflatable object, pushing each other around and jumping around. Children love bouncy castles because of the freedom they offer.

As you can see, these explanations alone point out some great pros and cons of using a bouncy castle for children’s entertainment, so let’s dig deeper.

Safety

As always, safety is one of the biggest concerns to have when using a bouncy castle for entertainment. As with everyone, when children are full of adrenaline they aren’t always thinking straight and quite frankly, they can do some stupid things. When there are 10 or so children jumping around on an inflatable bouncy castle, you can expect for at least 1 of them to fall over in the time that they’re on it, and on top of that, if nobody notices that someone has fallen over and warns the other children to stop jumping, that same child could get hurt further as well as the possibility of more children getting hurt.

On top of this possibility, if all the necessary checks aren’t made when the bouncy castle has been inflated, it could begin to deflate while children are on it, among other risks. With that in mind, some bouncy castle renters may offer the additional service of maintaining the castle throughout the day, which of course comes with additional fees. In other words, if you want to be 100% sure that the bouncy castle is safe for the use of children, you will have to pay extra.

Limited Number of Users

If you are having a smaller party for your child, consisting of close friends and family, then choosing a bouncy castle would be a viable option. However, if your child wants to invite lots of their friends to the party, maybe look in another direction. While bouncy castles can be fun as described, however the number of children that can be on the castle at a time is limited in order to prevent any accidents from happening. This can cause nothing but issues with some children not getting a turn on the bouncy castle, or some children staying on for too long and not sharing the castle.

Parties are supposed to be fun, and they should be nothing but fun. However, while bouncy castles have the upside of being incredibly fun and enjoyable, the downside that comes with them just may not be worth it. Remember, a party is supposed to fun, so if you plan on celebrating the day with a lot of friends and family, then look in a different direction.

Planning parties can be a difficult task. We all enjoy them, but until we’ve planned one we don’t fully understand the stress that comes with planning. Sorting out invitations. Sorting out the catering. Each section of planning comes with its own set of stress. One of these things are the entertainment. Entertainment, while a lot of people thing the contrary, is one of the hardest things to plan. There is lots of entertainment out there to choose from, it’s just a matter of whether or not you’re able to pick out the appropriate entertainment for your event. For example, hiring a clown for a corporate event would be something to pass on. So, how can you find out if you are booking the best form of children’s entertainment for your party?

Ask Your Child What They Want

When you’re planning a birthday party for your child, it’s important to know what they want. While what they want isn’t always affordable, if you ask for some of the ideas that they have had and give them some of the options (offering some sort of compromise), then you are able to get the entertainment that is right for them.

Pricing

The costs of entertainment are the last thing that you want to hear about, and we don’t enjoy bringing this point up. But it’s important. When it comes to children’s entertainment, don’t go all out and spend hundreds and hundreds on entertainment. Look for a reasonably priced entertainment who is equally as entertaining as his price tag is pleasing. Children don’t expect any complex entertainers who hypnotise them or play mind tricks on them, they expect simple magic and simple entertainment. Don’t cross the line, your child won’t enjoy it as much as you might think.

Appropriate Entertainment

It’s important that you choose an appropriate entertainer. What do I mean by this? Depending on the age range of the party, the entertainment differs. For example, as you take the step from planning a child’s party to a teenager’s party, you may make some riskier decisions, one of these decisions being the entertainment. Perhaps, rather than sticking with simple entertainment, you choose to hire a comedian. It’s important that you read into the comedian and hear what their customers have to say about them, and most importantly, find out if the comedy that they are conveying is appropriate for the specific age group.

As you can see, there are a few different things’ to look out for when you are booking entertainment, although above all it’s important that you’re satisfied with the entertainment. Frozen Birthday Cake

We all enjoy magic in one way or another, there’s no question about it. Whether it is a simple card trick or a disappearing act trick, we enjoy different types of tricks to different extents. On the other hand, we all like magic on a different level depending on the type of personality that we have. But regardless, we all enjoy it on our own level and that’s what’s important here. With that in mind we ask ourselves do children enjoy watching magic more than adults, or do adults enjoy watching magic more than children?

Why Do We Enjoy Magic?

Before we jump right into the nitty gritty of things, let’s get an insight to why we actually enjoy magic, and the answer is fairly simple. We like to be amazed. It’s human nature to enjoy the feeling of amazement, we can’t fight it and therefore we can’t fight the feelings that are brought on by magic tricks. The opening of an act, the build-up to the finish of the trick, the trick itself. All of it fills us up with adrenaline and once the trick has been pulled off by the magician, we explode with amazement. We get up out of our chairs, clapping and yelling “WHOO!” with the rest of the audience. Again, this is all human nature and it is completely natural that we all be amazed by the tricks that we see.

Let’s start with the children side of things. Magicians are possibly the best type of entertainment to choose for your children’s party. This is due to how a lot of types of entertainment can be risky, without consulting your child first, while all children love magicians. Now, there are many different aspects of a children’s magic show. Puppet shows, face painting, pulling a rabbit out of what seems to be an empty hat, pulling endless handkerchiefs out of their sleeve, the list goes on. Not only does the magician perform their act, but they get involved with their child audience and include their own form of comedy into the act, getting the children even more buzzed about the act.

In that particular aspect of things, indeed children do enjoy magic more than adults. However, the contrary to this is the same.

Adults’ Magicians

When it comes to a magic show which is performed for adults, things are very different. Let’s take David Copperfield, by far the face of modern magic, for example. David’s performances are not targeted at either adults or children, but rather his audience. This allows for everyone to get an equal level of entertainment and enjoyment out of his show. But much like a children’s magician’s act, there are certain parts of his act that children viewers may not quite understand.

As mentioned before, a children’s magician includes a light sense of humour to make the children enjoy the show even more. Similarly, in an adult’s magician’s show they will make references and jokes that children viewers most likely won’t understand. So as you can see, the tables flip equally on this question.

It is clear that the question is very difficult to answer, however when it is brought down to it we can clearly see that adults enjoy magicians more than children. The reasoning behind this is that children catch on to the little tricks that magicians do to pull off their tricks, while adults miss those tiny things and therefore enjoy the trick even more. Furthermore, the humour that magicians add to their tricks really add to the enjoyment of the audience. It’s the little things that count.
